Horned Frogs post their third comeback win of at least 17 points under Dykes

Team Notes

•TCU trailed 31-14 late in the third quarter before posting its third comeback win of at least 17 points under Head Coach Sonny Dykes.

•The Horned Frogs have won five of the last six meetings and eight of the past 11 against Texas Tech.

•TCU had its two longest passing plays of the season with 75- and 84-yard touchdowns from Josh Hoover to Savion Williams and Eric McAlister, respectively. 

•The Horned Frogs also had their longest rushing play of the year with Savion Williams’ 35-yard first-quarter touchdown.

 

•Dykes is 2-1 as a head coach versus Texas Tech with all three meetings against his alma mater coming during his time at TCU.

 

•TCU scored for the 402nd consecutive game, the second-longest streak in NCAA history. No. 1 is Florida at 455 games (1988-present). The Horned Frogs haven’t been blanked since Nov. 16, 1991, at Texas (32-0).

 

•TCU wore a purple helmet, black jersey and purple pants.

  

Individual Notes

Offense 

•Josh Hoover completed 21-of-32 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns.

•Hoover passed for at least 300 yards for the 10th time in 14 career starts and threw for at least three scores for the sixth time.

•Eric McAlister’s game-winning 84-yard touchdown reception tied for the 12th-longest pass play in TCU history and was the longest since Kenny Hill hit Jalen Reagor for a 93-yard touchdown in the 2017 Alamo Bowl win over Stanford.

•Savion Williams’ 35-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening series was the longest carry of his career and the longest rush by a Horned Frog this season.

 

•Williams topped TCU in rushing for the second straight game with his second consecutive 72-yard effort. 

 

•Williams added a career-long 75-yard touchdown reception which was also TCU’s longest pass play of the year, before Eric McAlister’s 84-yard scoring grab. Williams finished with three receptions for 81 yards.

 

•JP Richardson had four receptions for 35 yards to give him at least one catch in 35 consecutive games, tying for the seventh-longest streak in the nation.

 

•True freshman Jeremy Payne had a 1-yard scoring run for his second rushing touchdown of the season.

•DJ Rogers had an 8-yard scoring catch. His other career touchdown reception came last season at Texas Tech.

 

Defense 

•Devean Deal and Namdi Obiazor led TCU with nine tackles.

 

•A sack by Deal gave him a team-best 3.5 on the season. He has 3.0 in the last two games.

 

•Zachary Chapman recorded a sack to give him 3.0 on the year, placing second on TCU behind Deal.

•Bud Clark’s eight tackles were one shy of a career-high 9 set last season against Colorado.

•Hakeem Ajijolaiya had his first career forced fumble at the TCU 27 with 1:38 to play to end a Texas Tech drive for a potential game-winning score. It was recovered by Markis Deal.
