WINTER STORM WARNING | West Michigan snow storm totals, impacts

We have a 13 Weather Impact Alert through this evening, and strong winds and snow continue to make travel dangerous.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The cold front Wednesday evening brought strong winds, plus thunder and lightning across West Michigan. Gusts, associated with the front, exceeded 50 mph in many locations, including a 74 mph wind gust at South Haven.

Our most widespread and impactful snowfall so far this winter began Wednesday evening, and continues today. A trifecta of wind, cold, and snow is creating significant challenges for this morning commutes. Winter Storm warnings have been issued for a vast majority of West Michigan because of these impacts.

WHAT

In addition to the snow we received last night, another 6+ inches is expected to fall to the West of US-131, with isolated amounts of 8 to 10 inches. Along and east of US-131, totals remain low at an additional 1 to 3 inches. Winds will be gusting at 35-45 mph.

IMPACT

Visibility could drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Sporadic power outages continue to be possible. Black ice has also been reported on roads and additional lake effect will continue to deteriorate conditions west of US-131.
