Adams, who finished the game with 5 catches for a team-high 66 yards, gave the Jets a 6-0 lead (missed PAT) with an 8-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. It was the Jets’ first time scoring first in a game since Week 6 against the Bills.
RB Kene Nwangwu, who forced a fumble on the ensuing kick return that led to Davis’ first NFL touchdown, extended the Jets’ lead to double digits with a 99-yard return score following Seattle’s first TD (12-yard pass from Geno Smith to TE AJ Barner). It was his first return with the Green & White after he was called up from the practice squad Saturday and the fourth return TD of his career.
Rodgers, who completed 53.8% of his passes (21 of 39) for 185 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT, had a chance to perhaps give the Jets an insurmountable lead in the second quarter after Nwangwu’s return.
Jets K Anders Carlson recovered a muffed ball on the Seahawks 38-yard line on the ensuing kickoff. Rodgers, five plays later, missed an open Garrett Wilson near the corner of the end zone for a score that would have given the Jets a 28-7 lead. Instead, Williams picked off Rodgers on the next play and ran 92 yards for the score, cutting the lead, 21-13 (Quinnen Williams blocked PAT).
“I tried to throw it inside, the wind was blowing consistent,” Rodgers said of the miss to Wilson. Maybe I should’ve thrown it a little flatter because he was wide open. I have to hit that. It doesn’t matter if it’s windy, I’ve played in wind before. It was inconsistent, but I have to hit that.”
He added of the pick-six: “I kind of read behind the right guard, couldn’t see him [Williams].”
The Jets were held scoreless in the second half as Seahawks K Jason Myers’ two field goals cut the lead before Charbonnet delivered the final blow.
