Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Set To Host Ohio Dominican Saturday Afternoon


SETTING THE SCENE
The Cleveland State women’s basketball team will finally return to the court on Saturday, November 23, hosting Ohio Dominican at 3:30 p.m. as part of Cleveland State’s Homecoming Week. Entering Saturday’s game, both teams have matching 2-2 records on the year.
 
A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD…
Put the Vikings back in the win column…Extend the Vikings’ home win streak to 25 straight games…Put Cleveland State at 2-0 at home this season.
 
THE CLEVELAND STATE/OHIO DOMINICAN SERIES
Saturday’s game will be the first meeting between the two teams.
 
NIAGARA SCHEDULE CHANGE
Saturday’s game will be Cleveland State’s first contest since Saturday, November 16 after the matchup with Niagara was postponed, then ultimately cancelled due to health concerns within the Niagara program.
 
HOME-SWEET-HOME
Saturday’s game will mark the second of 13 home games for the Vikings during the 2024-25 season, and one of just three non-league home games on the year. Last time at the Wolstein Center, the Vikings picked up a 75-68 victory over Bowling Green, extending their current home win streak to 24 straight games. This stretch ranks Cleveland State third among Division I teams (South Carolina-61, FGCU-33), and dates back to February 2, 2023.
 
LEO SETS CSU CAREER THREE-POINT RECORD
Last time out, Destiny Leo became the Cleveland State Career Record Holder in three-pointers made, finishing the game at Akron with 234 total three-pointers on her career. After converting two shots from behind-the-arc against the Zips, Leo has now recorded two or more three-pointers in all four games so far this season. Leo took over a record that was previously set by Khayla Livingston in 2018. In addition, Leo remains at the top of the CSU Career Three-Point Field Goal Percentage list, shooting 38.6-percent from behind-the-arc on her career.
 
…LEO REACHES 1,600-POINT PLATEAU
Along with setting the three-point record at Akron, Destiny Leo also eclipsed the 1,600-point mark for her career, ending the game with 1,601 total points. As one of just seven Vikings all-time with 1,600+ points on their career, Leo is just six points shy of moving into sixth place on the CSU All-Time Scoring List. So far this season, Leo is averaging 11.0 points per game, marking the fifth straight year that she has averaged double-digit points.
 
PERDUE NOTCHES THIRD 20-POINT GAME OF THE SEASON
Mickayla Perdue recorded her third 20-point game of the season at Akron last time out, finishing with a team-best 25 points against the Zips. Eighteen of Perdue’s 25 points came on six three-pointers, as she currently leads the Horizon League averaging 4.0 three-pointers per game. For the season, Perdue is averaging 25.3 points per game, a mark that ranks her third nationally and makes her one of just five Division I players to be averaging 25.0+ points per game on the year.
 
REISMA EFFICIENT FROM THE FIELD
Entering Saturday’s game against Ohio Dominican, Jordana Reisma has been Cleveland State’s most efficient offensive player, shooting 67-percent from the field going 21-for-31 through four games played. Among Division I players, Reisma ranks 12th with her .677 clip, while she ranks ninth among players with 20 or more field goals on the year. For her career, Reisma currently sits at the top of the CSU Career Record Book with a .563 field goal percentage (243-for-432).
 
GUERREIRO OFF TO FAST START
Sara Guerreiro has had a fast start to the 2024-25 campaign, entering Saturday’s contest averaging 15.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game – leading Cleveland State in rebounds and assists. Guerreiro has recorded double-digit points in all four games this season, while she tallied her first double-double of the year at Chicago State. Through four games played, Guerreiro ranks in the top-10 among Horizon League players in scoring (9th), rebounding (2nd) and assists (5th).
 
HURLEY EARNS SPOT IN STARTING LINEUP
Last time out, freshman guard Sarah Hurley earned a spot in the starting lineup for the first time in her collegiate career, playing 19 minutes as part of the starting five at Akron. Hurley also scored her first collegiate points against the Zips, converting a three-pointer along with two rebounds and one steal.
 
CLEVELAND STATE FROM THE FREE THROW LINE
Through four games played this season, the Vikings rank third nationaly averaging 20.0 free throws made per game. For the season, Cleveland State has converted 80 free throws, including a season-best 33-for-41 performance against Chicago State earlier this month. The Vikings are shooting at a .748 clip from the free throw line on the year, with the trio of Sara Guerreiro (20-24), Mickayla Perdue (21-26) and Jordana Reisma (8-10) all shooting 80-percent or better.
 
VIKINGS IN THE RANKINGS
Cleveland State entered the third week of the 2024-25 campaign ranked 13th in the latest edition of the College Insider Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 Poll. The Vikings are one of two Horizon League teams to be in the current rankings, as Green Bay sits 15th in this week’s top-25, while Purdue Fort Wayne is receiving votes.
 
VIKINGS ECLIPSE 100-POINT MARK
The Vikings recorded the 16th 100-point game in program history earlier this month, finishing with 111 points in the win at Chicago State. This marked the first 100-point game since the 2022-23 season, while it put Cleveland State at 14-2 all-time when scoring 100+ points.
 
CLEVELAND STATE SELECTED AS #HLWBB PRESEASON FAVORITES
Last month, the Vikings were selected as the preseason favorite to win the Horizon League, picking up 117 points and seven first place votes. This marked the first time in program history that Cleveland State was selected as the preseason favorite, while it marked the fourth time that they were ranked in the top-two heading into a season.
 
HEAD COACH CHRIS KIELSMEIER
The Vikings will be under the direction of seventh-year head coach Chris Kielsmeier, who currently owns a career head coaching record of 543-178. At Cleveland State, Kielsmeier owns a record of 127-62, with his 100th victory as a Viking coming in a 95-41 decision over Chicago State last season. Under his guidance, Cleveland State has posted four 20-win seasons, including a program-record 30 wins during the 2023-24 campaign.
 
…KIELSMEIER NAMED TO PRESEASON WATCH LIST
Chris Kielsmeier was named to the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Preseason Watch List last month – one of 20 coaches to earn the recognition, and the only coach from the Horizon League. Under Kielsmeier, the Vikings have advanced to the Horizon League Championship game three straight years, and have made four consecutive postseason appearances.
