US carrier Verizon has suffered a major outage, which has reportedly impacted millions of customers.
The outage appeared to begin just after midnight ET, with Downdetector noting a peak of more than 45,000 reports from users.
According to Newsweek, the outage, which has impacted Verizon’s fiber broadband service Fios, has affected millions of users.
Downdetector’s outage map reveals that the East Coast of the US appears to be impacted by the outage, notably in Boston, New York, and Washington DC, while there’s also a big spike in Kansas.
Outage.Report noted reports of downtime in Washington, Lewes, Miami, LaGrange, Baltimore, Silver Spring, Raleigh, Cherry Hill, Maple Shade, Sewell, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington, Ashburn, Fairfax, Falls Church, Henrico County, Norfolk, and 25 other cities.
Verizon told users on social media platform X that it has dispatched crews to solve the issue.
No cause for the outage has been given as of yet.
“There is either an outage or network maintenance impacting your area,” said Verizon to one person on X. “We don’t have full details just yet. Our apologies for any inconvenience this is causing. We’re trying to get all the information from our network team so we can provide you all an update.”
DCD has contacted Verizon for more information.
Verizon also suffered a nationwide outage in late September, with more than 104,000 people reporting issues with the service.
Update: Verizon told DCD that it has since been able to restore the service, noting that a network issue disrupted some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast.
“A network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast for a short period of time. As soon as the issue was identified, our engineering teams quickly restored the service,” said a Verizon spokesperson in a statement.
