Bears fall to Lions at Soldier Field

The Lions defeated the Bears 34-17 Sunday at Soldier Field. Here’s what transpired in the game:

First half

The Lions took a 3-0 lead on Jake Bates’ 30-yard field goal on their first possession.

Detroit recovered a fumble at the Bears’ 36 that resulted from a botched handoff between quarterback Caleb Williams and receiver Rome Odunze on a jet sweep.

The Lions converted the takeaway into Jahmyr Gibbs’ 1-yard touchdown run, extending their lead to 10-0 with 5:34 remaining in the first quarter.

After Detroit forced and recovered an Odunze fumble at the Lions’ 40 after a 19-yard reception, Bates’ 34-yard field goal widened the margin to 13-0.

The Lions made it 20-0 on Jared Goff’s 82-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jameson Williams.

The Bears cut the deficit to 20-7 on Williams’ 1-yard TD pass to Cole Kmet with 6:31 left in the first half. Williams’ 13-yard completion to Odunze on fourth-and-3 from the Detroit 31 sustained the 14-play, 70-yard drive.
