Winners And Losers From Pantoja Vs. Asakura Card

The UFC is at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for tonight’s UFC 310 pay-per-view fight card. UFC 310 features a title fight in the main event. In the headlining bout, UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja faces former two-time Rizin bantamweight titleholder Kai Asakura. Meanwhile, in the co-main event, two unbeaten welterweights, Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry, put their perfect records on the line in the hope of booking a fight against UFC welterweight kingpin, Belal Muhammad. Also on the PPV fight card is an important heavyweight rematch between former UFC interim champ Ciryl Gane and veteran Alexander Volkov. UFC 310 Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Asakura

Alexandre Pantoja (28-5) is on a six-fight winning streak heading into UFC 310. The 34-year-old Brazilian made his UFC debut in July 2017 with a split-decision win over Eric Shelton. Pantoja’s career had its ups and downs over the next three years, where he went 5-3, but he has not lost since he dropped a decision to Askar Askarov in July 2020.

Pantoja won the UFC flyweight title in July 2023 on the heels of two “Performance of the Night” submission wins. Pantoja secured the 125-pound title with a split decision win over Brandon Moreno. Since that victory, Pantoja has defended his title twice, beating Brandon Royval in December and Steve Erceg in May. Both fights ended in decision victories.

Kai Asakura (21-4) signed with the UFC in June. The 31-year-old is a two-time Rizin bantamweight champion. His first title run began with a knockout victory over Hiromasa Ougikubo following a TKO loss to current UFC competitor Manel Kape in December 2019. That reign ended in his first defense with a KO loss to Kyoji Horiguchi. Following that loss, Asakura went 4-1 before regaining the vacant 135-pound belt in December 2023 with a TKO over Juan Archuleta. Asakura has not fought since that victory.

UFC 310 Results: Winners

Shavkat Rakhmonov and Ian Machado Garry: Two of the best in the UFC’s welterweight division delivered a technical battle in the co-main event spot of UFC 310. Both men looked very good, and there weren’t many moments where one fighter pulled ahead in the early rounds of the fight.

Both men had their moments in the later rounds, with Rakhmonov carrying the fourth and Garry taking the fifth.

Rakhmonov deserves credit for taking this fight and risking his matchup against UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad. What he got from the Garry matchup was experience going five rounds, as he had never been past the third round before Saturday night.

As for Garry, he faced a more established and higher-ranked foe. While he lost for the first time in his career, Garry’s stock should go up following UFC 310. He handled himself well, answered some questions about his defensive ability, and showed that his 15-0 record heading into Saturday night was not a fluke.

It won’t be a surprise to see these two rematch with UFC gold on the line at some point.

Bryce Mitchell: Bryce Mitchell dominated Kron Gracie throughout their featherweight scrap. Gracie pulled guard often during the fight. When he did so in the third round, Mitchell made him pay by slamming him to the mat and then landing two elbows, bringing the fight to a close.

Dooho Choi: Dooho Choi looked excellent everywhere to open the UFC 310 fight card against Nate Landwehr. The 33-year-old was dominant on the feet, using his speed and power to overwhelm his foe. Then, when Landwehr looked to close distance and fight in close, Choi used a slick trip and superior ground control to put more damage on his opponent.

Choi’s impressive win on Saturday night might have been his most complete and best performance as a UFC fighter. The UFC has to give him a matchup against a ranked opponent after this victory.

Dominick Reyes: Dominick Reyes looked confident in his striking against Anthony Smith. He fought well behind his jab, and once he had Smith hurt, he kept landing strikes to force the stoppage.

Reyes was on a three-fight knockout loss skid but is now on a two-fight winning streak. It’s still too early to proclaim that the Reyes who nearly defeated Jon Jones, is back, but he has two straight stoppages.

Vicente Luque: Vicente Luque made short work of the up-and-coming Themba Gorimbo at UFC 310. The 33-year-old bounced back from a March knockout loss to Joaquin Buckley with an anaconda choke submission win over a fighter who was on a four-fight winning streak.

Luque stunned Gorimbo with a hard right and quickly locked up the choke, never giving his foe a chance to regain his senses.

Movsar Evloev vs. Aljamain Sterling: In one of the most entertaining grappling-heavy matches in recent memory Movsar Evloev defeated former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Serling via unanimous decision.

Both men had their moments, but the difference was that Evloev was able to capitalize on Sterling’s small mistakes to regain top position and do more damage in the striking department. He was also more aggressive when he was in top position on the mat. This high-level matchup would have been great to see over five rounds.

With the win, Evloev moves to a perfect 19-0 record. Meanwhile, Sterling looked phenomenal in his second UFC fight at featherweight.

Bryan Battle: Bryan Battle missed weight for his UFC 310 welterweight fight against Randy Brown. He then picked up a split decision that the crowd did not seem to agree with.

Eryk Anders: Eryk Anders used ground strikes to finish Chris Weidman late in the second round of their UFC 310 matchup.

Joshua Van: The 23-year-old Joshua Van worked through the first round of his flyweight contest against skilled wrestler Cody Durden to come back to put a beating on his opponent in the ensuing 10 minutes. Van’s output, power, and accuracy carried the day for him. Van looked excellent in moving to 5-1 in the UFC.

Micheal Chiesa: Micheal Chiesa dominated Max Griffin on the mat and that was enough for him to pick up a third-round rear-naked choke submission. The win put him on a two-fight winning streak.

Chiesa fought to his strengths at UFC 310, and looked very good in picking up the victory.

Chase Hooper: The 25-year-old Chase Hooper extended his UFC winning streak to four in a row with a beautiful display of grappling against veteran competitor Clay Guida. Hooper used his length well on the feet, but the grappling ace wanted to get the fight to the mat, which he did through chain wrestling and an impressive display of grappling.

Hooper did not look the least bit worried about Guida’s defensive grappling before locking up the fight-ending armbar.

Kennedy Nzechukwu: Kennedy Nzechukwu moved to 2-0 as a UFC heavyweight with his second knockout in three months. The 32-year-old looked relaxed and dialed in to open his matchup against Lukasz Brzeski. Despite carrying his hands alarmingly low, Nzechukwu did a nice job defensively, but his offense carried the day.

Nzechukwu mixed up his targets and techniques throughout the fight, utilizing combos to score against Brzeski. Despite his relaxed approach, Nzechukwu ended the bout with a powerful right hook that left Brzeski defenseless on the mat.

UFC 310 Results: Losers

Ciryl Gane: Ciryl Gane picked up a win on Saturday, but he did not fight a smart 15 minutes. After the bout he said he broke his toes in the first round and said he was not happy with the fight, even though he got the win. It seemed as if the fans were not happy with the result either.

The fight was a step back for Gane, who entered the contest as the No. 2 ranked heavyweight in the UFC.

Alexander Volkov: Alexander Volkov seemed stunned that he was on the wrong end of a decision to Ciryl Gane. The loss ended his four-fight winning streak.

Kron Gracie: Kron Gracie threatened submissions in the second round of his featherweight contest against Bryce Mitchell, but his willingness to pull guard proved to be his downfall, as Mitchell used the defensive move against Gracie to slam him to the mat, leading to the elbows that finished the fight.

Gracie has not won a fight since his UFC debut in 2019.

Nate Landwehr: Nate Landwehr had nothing to offer Dooho Choi in the opening fight of the UFC 310 pay-per-view card. Landwehr could not establish any offense during the contest, landing only 25 significant strikes over the length of the contest.

Anthony Smith: Anthony Smith did not offer much against Dominick Reyes. While absorbing damage from Reyes in the second round, it seemed as if Smith was just waiting for the referee to wave off the fight, which eventually occurred.

Smith fought two weeks after the death of his good friend and cornerman, Scott Morton, and he seemed to struggle with the weight of that loss even before stepping into the Octagon.

Chris Weidman: Chris Weidman’s decision to drop for a guillotine choke in the second round of his fight against Eryk Anders proved to be an enormous mistake as Anders slipped out of the choke and unloaded ground strikes to end Weidman’s night.

Cody Durden: Cody Durden showed good wrestling early against Joshua Van, but the effort to get takedowns left him sapped and open to the high-output striking of his opponent, who cruised to a decision win over Durden. Durden fell to 1-3 in his past four UFC outings with the loss.

Max Griffin: Max Griffin spent far too much time fighting Micheal Chiesa where he was at his best. Griffin could not establish his striking at any point of the fight.

Clay Guida: The 43-year-old Clay Guida is on the first three-fight losing skid of his lengthy UFC career following his submission loss to Chase Hooper at UFC 310.

Guida did his best to escape the grappling of Hooper, but he was just outmatched on the mat.

Lukasz Brzeski: Lukasz Brzeski never looked settled in against Kennedy Nzechukwu. He threw single strikes, did not pressure much, and lacked aggression. He paid for that approach with a second straight first-round knockout loss.

Brzeski is now 1-5 in the UFC.
