The Golden State Warriors experienced a bittersweet moment on Thursday night.
The Warriors pulled off a gritty win without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green over an excellent Houston Rockets team. Golden State’s star of the night was 22-year-old wing Jonathan Kuminga, who scored a career-high 33 points.
But are Kuminga’s days in a Warriors uniform numbered?
He’s been linked to various teams and with his stock higher than ever, it might be high time for Golden State to finalize a deal.
One team that should be interested in Kuminga’s length, athleticism, and versatility on the wing is the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Cavs will have to overcome the wing-talented Boston Celtics at some point in the playoffs, and adding an athletic stud like Kuminga to match up physically with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown would be a key move for Cleveland.
While the Cavs don’t have a player to match Kuminga’s salary in a trade other than Georges Niang, they do have a super-valuable 2028 first-round pick from the Utah Jazz.
Cleveland could offer Golden State a package of Niang and that pick, plus additional second-round draft capital.
Would Golden State be interested in such a deal? It’s hard to say, but Niang is a guy they could insert into their lineup right now, and adding a potential lottery pick to their trove of assets would be huge, especially since that pick could be used in another big deal.
