WACO, TX. (WIBW) – Kansas football’s 2024 season came to an end on Saturday in Waco, falling 45-17 to Baylor.
The Jayhawks needed one final win to become bowl eligible, but the Bears, who were fighting for a chance at the Big 12 Title game, dominated them to end their year with a 5-7 record.
Despite missing a field goal on the opening drive, KU was later the first to score, as Devin Neal ran in a 19-yard touchdown to go up 7-0 midway through the first quarter.
Baylor responded on the ensuing drive. Sawyer Robertson connected with Monaray Baldwin for a 36-yard touchdown to tie the game at the end of the first.
On KU’s next drive, Jalon Daniels threw a costly interception. The Bears took over and proceeded to quickly score to take a 14-7 lead.
The Hawks’ closed in on that lead a bit with a 26-yard field goal by Tabor Allen to make it 14-10.
But Baylor extended its lead just three minutes later. Robertson found Josh Cameron for a 14-yard touchdown to make it 21-10 at halftime.
The third quarter then proved detrimental for KU’s comeback chances.
Baylor scored two touchdowns to go up 35-10.
KU cut the deficit in half, as Lawrence Arnold ran in a 14-yard touchdown to make it 35-17 with 5:03 remaining in the third.
The Bears added one final touchdown to close out the third quarter, as Bryson Washington punched in a 1-yard score to make it 42-17.
Baylor added one more field goal to win it 45-17.
KU ends a season originally filled with high hopes, and a top-five projected finish in the Big 12, with a 5-7 overall record, 4-5 in the conference.
