NASSAU, Bahamas – Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers scored 23 points to lead the No. 2 UConn women’s basketball team (5-0) past Oregon State (1-5), 71-52, in the Baha Mar Women’s Championship Monday evening.
Bueckers had her third 20-point game of the season and added six assists and three rebounds.
Freshman Sarah Strong had 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and six steals while redshirt freshman Jana El Alfy scored 12 points.
The Huskies outscored the Beavers 22-7 in the first quarter.
Freshman Allie Ziebell scored all seven of her points in the second quarter as the Huskies took a 42-19 lead into halftime.
Sophomore KK Arnold was disruptive on defense for UConn. She notched three steals and five assists. Graduate student Azzi Fudd, who played in her second game in a year, dished out a career-high five assists and added four rebounds.
The Huskies face No. 18 Ole Miss (4-1) in the Baha Mar Women’s Championship game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on FloCollege and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
