Tim Kaine cameos in “What’s That Name: Election Edition” sketch

“Saturday Night Live” kicked off with a surprise appearance from Vice President Kamala Harris this week, and surprise appearance former VP hopeful, Tim Kaine.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine (D) and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 vice presidential running mate, made a surprise cameo on the Nov. 2, 2024, episode of “Saturday Night Live.”

Kaine acted as the $300,000 question in a quiz show sketch “What’s That Name: Election Edition,” which requires contestants to recall names of people they definitely should know.

In the episode, that night’s host John Mulaney played a contestant who identified as an outspoken progressive on social media and definitely voted for Clinton in 2016. However, Mulaney could not remember Kaine’s name, even when given a hint from the man himself.

“I was Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential running mate at the time,” Kaine said. “You said it was the most important election in American history, and that democracy was on the line. It’s been less than eight years. What’s my name?”

Mulaney, in character, argued it would be easier to identify Kaine if he were more memorable like Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 democratic running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, before the sketch’s host, played by Michael Longfellow, brought up a side-by-side photo comparison of the two men showing just how similar they are in looks and name.

“Not only does he look exactly like Tim Walz, his name was also Tim,” said Longfellow.

Eventually, Longfellow gave Mulaney three options: “Tim Clinton, Tim Tim, Tim Scott.” Once he decided that two out of the three sounded fake, Mulaney guessed Tim Tim and the audience guessed Tim Scott, much to the dismay of Kaine.

To end the sketch, Kaine returned as the $10 million clue, simply asking Mulaney, “What’s My Name?”

When Mulaney appeared to be flustered by the question Kaine said exasperatedly, “I just told you 90 seconds ago!” before Mulaney gave his final incorrect guess.
